*Barchelle Bolger Wathen: Chelly, a Prescott resident, has always loved dogs, her own plus shelter dogs. Chelly’s world changed forever when she and her husband adopted a very special dog – Shayla from Ukraine. This remarkable shepherd/wolfdog, abandoned as a puppy, learned to love and trust those who raised her at the Christian orphanage Otchiy Dim (Father’s House), then came to America.

Chelly was inspired by Shayla’s life, the leaders and children of Father’s House, and the courage of the Ukrainian people. She wrote Shayla and Friends to share their true story, Into the Light for teens, and Shayla’s Adventure books to inspire kids with lessons of love and friendship.
